Printable Instructions
- Click here to open a new Blogger.com account
- Click on "Take a Quick Tour" to learn more about what
a blog is and how you can use it. Otherwise, please go to step 3.
- Click on "Create Your Blog Now", bottom right hand side of the page.
- Complete the Create a Google Account Form.
- Email address: enter your Gmail address, retype it in the next field.
- Enter a password: create a password, retype it in the next field. Be sure to write
down your password and keep it in a secure place.
- Display name: This is the name that will be displayed each time you create a post.
- Enter in the word verification and read and click to accept the Terms of Service.
- Click on "Continue".
- Name your blog: enter in the Blog Title and Blog Address (URL). Please be careful in selecting
these. They do not need to match. If you make a mistake in naming your blog, you can change
it later in the dashboard. If you make a mistake in the Blog Address(URL), you may delete this blog and start
all over. Be sure to write down your new Blogger Address (URL).
- Skip the Advanced Setup and click on "Continue".
- Choose a template: by default the Minima template is selected. This is ok. Click on "Continue".
- You should see "Your Blog has been created!". Congratultions, you now have a Blog!
If you run into any problems here, please contact me.
- Click on "Start Blogging".
- In order for your blog to show up on the web, you will need to make at least one
post. So go ahead and create your very first post. Title it and compose
your post, type anything you like. I typed "My First Post" in the title and
typed a quick sentence, "Hi, this is my very first post!".
- Before you click on "Publish Post" I wanted to very quickly tell you about:
"Post Options" and "Labels for this post" located right above
the "Publish Post". This will be just a summary of these two because
these instructions are to instruction how to set up your account, not
to teach you how to use your blog.
Post Options: Click on this and you will get a chance to Allow or Not Allow
your readers to leave comments on this post. Change it if you want.
Labels for this post: Essentially this is just like setting up categories.
If you want to keep certain posts under certain categories or labels for
future archieval purposes, you type in the label here. Each time you create
a new post, you can either use the same label or type in a new one.
- Now click on "Publish Post".
- You will see "Your blog post published successfully!". Congratulations, you
just wrote your first post!
- View your post, but PLEASE click on "(in a new window)" so that you don't
loose this window.
Cool huh? But boring and not pretty at all, that's what I am here for :) Let's continue.
- At this point, the only other configuration I want you to do is in the Settings area.
- Click on the Settings tab: Go through each option and either change or leave them. For
any options that have the words editing or compose, please leave them in their default stage.
Click on "Save Settings". You can change these settings at any time.
- Click on "Dashboard" at the very top, right hand side.
- Here you will find your Blogger Dashboard. Bookmark this page. This is
where you will go to log in the next time you want to create a post.
The top portion is where you will click where you want to go, create
new posts, manage past posts, manage your settings, etc. The bottom
portion is Blogger news, important information, updates, etc.
You can also log in using the link to your actual blog. If you still have
your blog page open, bookmark it. Because you are logged in, you will notice
tool icons on the page, you can click on any one of those to change or
update your blog.
For now, you are done with setting up. Wooot Wooot! You may browse around and
learn about the different areas, but please do not do any adding of widgets
or configuring anything else. You may, however; create posts
daily as I am working on your design. When I am ready to install and
test your design, only one of us will be able to be logged into your
account.
You will be required to give me your Gmail address and password AND
your Blogger Address (URL) and password. I will need this to install
and test your new blog design. You can always change your password
after I have finished your project.
